Default New To the Site from Central MN

Hi all,
I just found this site while searching the web for several Fun Finder cabinet door pulls ... It seems our newly acquired 2008 Fun Finder XTra XT190 never had pulls on three cabinet doors, making for short fingernails.

I retired last year and moved to Central Minnesota from Phoenix, AZ with my wife and little cat. My wife is from MN and I enjoyed the change of scenery.

We just finished a 1st outing (Shake-down Run) with the trailer. We headed for the Boundary Waters Area of Northern MN and spent several days camping on the Gun Flint Trail in Grand Marais and at the End of Trail Campground!

On the way up, we met a car that crossed the center line and forced me to swerve, lest facing a head-on collision! I have to say the the lite weight trailer (Dry Weight @ 3390 & a GVWR @ 6095) followed our Chevy Crew Cab Silverado 1500, 4X4 Max Trailer Package (with a maximum trailer weight rating of nearly 11,000 lbs.) like a puppy on a short leash ... I could hear the trailer tires squealing, but the Silverado held the road and XT190 followed us without rolling or whipping off the road ... THANK GOODNESS _ I had considered using a Weight Distribution hitch, but the trailer seemed to handle well and only pressed the hitch down about a 1/2 inch when connected ... after this swerve-test, I don't really think the hitch is necessary.

I am adding a second battery and converting the lights to LED in preparation for a trip to a GPAA gold claim in the Black Hills of SD right after the 4th of July. We are also planning another trip around the end of September/early October to somewhere in the Iron Range of Northern MN on a lake.

Happy Camping all ....

Quite a story John ... so glad you had sufficient reaction times to avoid a disaster. I can't imagine what it must be like coming from Arizona and moving to Minnesota. (although I did have the opposite effect when I moved from Winnipeg to Southern California as a teenager).

One thing about Fun Finders, they're pretty well insulated so you may get an extended camping season even up in the northern tier where you are now. The places you've just been to are known for their particular beauty so don't be shy about sharing images if you have any.

Welcome to the Club and we look forward to hearing about your adventures,

Neil & Yoly

A welcome to you...as just live next door in South Dakota. Used to have to travel to AZ and tried to avoid it in the summer due to the horrible 100+ temps ~ prefer much cooler myself.
Glad your near crash turned out well with no injuries or damage .
You should be fine in the Black Hills in July but it will get super busy the first of August when the 75th Annual Motorcycle Rally commences again with an expected 1 million plus motorcycles. It's a great time for motorcycle fans with great riding in the Hills...been there, done that & will again too.

Hi Neil & Yoly,
The state has a lion's share of beauty for sure!

Thank you for the welcome ... I am still trying to figure out how to load photos and was looking for personal galleries, but I am thinking this site may not use them.

I should be insulating under the floor in the trailer; the walls and ceiling seems to have about an inch or inch and a half of insulation, but piping and sewer stuff is open to the cold. I am new to a self contained trailer and learning fast.
Our first trailer was a 6 x 10 cargo conversion that worked great fo my prospecting excursions, but my wife wanted an indoor potty and a bit more comfort.

We bought this trailer because of it's toy hauling capabilities and hope to replace my older K5 Blazer with an ATV before long.

Hi Eagle,
Thank you for the welcome!
My wife and I passed through a bit of SD a few years ago; we stopped to see Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial (I hope they finish it, it will be quite a work of art).

Unfortunately, we sailed right on through the black hills ... This time I hope to spend at least a few days and maybe even find a little bit of the Black Hills Gold.

If we are able to make it on schedule, we are planning on rolling out of here right after the 4th of July ... We hope to beat the crowd and maybe there will still be a bit of water to gold pan in.

John,

The routine for uploading photos has been covered at great length here somewhere (I'll have to go look for it). I know I've posted the step by step drill that I personally use and others have as well. Suffice it to say that posting photos here is very easy once you know the simple procedure. The forum doesn't use a "gallery" like some others and photos have to go through a "picture hosting" site where you simply add the link to the photo here and it displays at the resolution you selected.

I'll see if I can find the info and add it here.

Neil

UPDATE: scroll down to my post to see my procedure. DO NOT use the info in the first post ! It may seem involved but only because I'm long winded and detail everything. Once you do it once it will be self-evident. Any picture hosting site will do the same as the one I use.

http://www.funfinderclub.com/phpBB2/...loading+photos

NOTE: the key is to use the tool bar at the top and bracket the URL for the photo with the icon at the top (for both posting a photo or a link to another web page)

Welcome John. I might run across you sometime...The Blaick Hills is one of my favorite places.

We are headed to Grand Casino in Hinkley on Wed and then on to Scenic State Park until the 6th. MN has some great state parks!!!

We stayed about a week at the RV campground adjacent to the Grand Casino in Hinkley MN last year. NICE campground. Didn't spend much time in the casino other than to eat a few times. Traveled the area by motorcycle, up to Duluth and over into Wisconsin. Year before spend a week in Walker, MN up by Bemiji ~ great area and saw lots of eagles. Nice casino east of Walker with good food too & nice little museum in Walker.

Hi Eagle & Kafn8td,
We are probably staying close to the house over the 4th and then I'm going to get out for at least a few days. I may not make it to SD this time, but it is still on the schedule ... when is the question.

I will probably head up to the North Shore (MN - North side of Lk Superior) and see if I can find a spot near the water ... and just relax.

Thanks again for the kind welcome ...
