2013 FF 18' - Electrical Issue

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2013 18' FF and I am experiencing some odd electrical issues that I was hoping someone could shed some light on.

Prior to leaving for a trip I'll plug the trailer into the house 110 to get the fridge cold and to the charge up two 12 volt deep cycle batteries.

By the end of the first night (running the fridge on LP Gas) the batteries are dead and I have no juice what so ever.

I'll run the generator, close the battery switch (small pull out chrome switch on the electrical panel) to charge the batteries, but the batteries never charge.

From there I think the batteries are bad....

BUT, while the generator (Honda 2000) is running I attempt to pack up. The electric levelers retract at a SNAILS pace. I have to manually assist them while my wife holds the retract button, but the tongue jack works fine and so does the slide out (while on generator power). Then the microwave starts running on its own. I have to override this manually with the breaker panel on the floor.

Once I leave the breaker off for quite some time the microwave doesn't run on its own... odd...


So to sum up the issues;

1. Lack of battery capacity (could be bad batteries).
   
2. Unresponsive to a charge via the generator.
   
3. Electric levelers not functioning correctly even under generator power.
   
4. Microwave running on its own. But corrected by the breaker being turned on and off.

I would say your AC to DC inverter has gone bye bye. With the trailer connected through the shore line, use a volt meter to check the voltage at the disconnected battery terminals. You should be getting about 13 - 14 volts. If not your inverter may be bad.

You mean the converter, right?

Yup, sounds like the converter may be failed or has failed. That could explain why your batteries were dead since the converter didn't charge them when you were plugged into shore power.

You most likely have a WFCO converter which aren't held in high regard. I just upgraded mine to a Progressive Dynamics converter. It's a much better converter with 4 mode charging. I bought mine here:

Funny, I always thought of them as inverter, but yea converter is probably bad.
