Default 2013 Fun Finder Awning Warning For Travel

We just purchased a used 2013 Fun Finder. We are brand spankin new to travel trailers. I am in the process of reading all the manuals. For the awning it says to verify that the ignition interlock is working correctly before traveling with the RV. If the awning responds when the truck switch is on, then you have the possiblity of the awning opening by itself when you are traveling. It says if this happens which it does for our truck, you need to take it in for service? Does anyone know how to handle this ourselves? I certainly don't want to be traveling down the highway and have our awning open up, but we don't want a big repair bill before we even get to use this RV. Thank you so much for any help! Dave and Cindy

I have no idea what an awning interlock is, but I do have a solution! We had a manual awning on our first trailer (which was used), and the manual locking mechanism was unreliable -- the arm would get loose during travel, and there was no way to repair the latch. We never had a disaster -- I saw the arm wiggling in the side mirror and pulled over in time.

But here is the solution -- a good-old bungee cord, wrapped tightly around the arm! It held the arm in place -- no problems during several years of travel.

And since you are new to trailers, keep asking questions!! We were all newbies, and we vividly remember that sense of cluelessness. Hang in there. It gets easier and more fun very quickly.
