Anyway to quiet a/c in 2007 189fbr?

Just wondering if there is anyway(outside of turning it off) of making the ceiling a/c run quietly. Darn thing is so loud I have a hard time hearing DH talk from across the dinette table!

Well - We've got the same observation.

No way to make it run quieter that I know of. It's a large unit, ceiling mounted over such a small confined space. Sometimes - opening all the ceiling vents helps disperse the air flow and helps lessen the noise-but not much.

well, darn (I'd say something else, but I am a lady, after all ). Not a very good design for it, uh?

Unfortunately most of the AC systems in trailers are noisy. Best advice is to only use it when you really need it, otherwise rely on fans and open windows.

I just watched a video recently where someone made a boxed cover which fit over their rv air conditioner on the ceiling. It had one end open so that the air could come out and was hinged for servicing. It was lined with foam insulation.
But for the life of me I can't find it now. Will keep trying.

Maybe could be modified for our type. I would make it white to match ceiling. I love his pronunciations of "Lou-Ann" and "pop-Larry". Lol!!

Only "trick" I know is that at night, place the thermostat fan in the manual/on position instead of auto. This will allow the fan to run all night, almost like a "white noise" once you get used to it. The A/C compressor will cycle on/off to cool. But - in the auto position the entire unit shuts off when you reach temperature and then cycles on (vibrating the whole camper and increases the noise from nothing to A/C on.)

Problem might be where our vents are and depth of our units. His I'd ducted. But worth considering. Ours is in storage so I can't check it out.

Yeah, that cover is for the return air side of a ducted system.

Some people have installed the Mini-split systems.
Those may be quieter but I can tell you they are not "road-rated" and probably wouldn't stand up to travel for very long.
I have a friend who's new Jayco has the thru the wall style AC and it is much quieter than ours. Less weight/stress on the roof as well.

Yes, those thru the wall units are less noisy. Not sure why so many trailer manufactures put this type of AC units in the lowest ceiling/cheap's trailers. If I were designing my FBR, I would ditch the above trailer AC unit and put in a wall unit where the TV station is. Perfect spot for it. AC air would be directed straight down the center of the trailer. Plus, if the unit went poof, they are supper cheap to replace. If my above trailer AC unit ever goes bad, I may just do it?

I think the " in the wall" a/c makes more sense! I have seen them in some newer models, not sure they were fun finders, though. We couldn't have it replace the tv, though! Cool air down the middle would sure be better for air flow, too! Guess we'll just have to bare, I mean bear and grin it!��

The top of the cabinet with the micro and fridge in our T139 forms a shelf that would be a great spot for a thru the wall A/C unit.
I have given some thought to it because, being very small, our rig could use less cooling then it currently has and actually work more efficiently.
A swap would require cutting a side wall exhaust and adding a roof intake..like in this picture:


The benefits of getting a quieter unit, more efficiency and removing that weight from the middle of the roof have had my gears turning for a while now.....

There ya go!
I would probably install a slightly larger roof vent, but I like his thinking.
Some of the "window" type units use the outside fan to splash the condensate water onto the condenser coil to help cool it and increase the efficiency rating. I believe that is were the author is getting the moisture he mentions inside the cabinet.
I wonder why he didn't just mount it on a tray that he could roll in/out?
