Batteries on my FF189FBR
Hi- I just bought my 2009 FF 189FBR last week. We are getting it set up for our virgin voyage. I have had the shore line plugged in to my 110v line with an adapter. Lights, fans and stereo all work. I then unplugged the shore line and then nothing works. The batteries tested out at slightly over 12v. There is also a solar panel on the roof. Any ideas as to why there is no power when shore line is disconnected? Remember I am new to this.

I just went through this this am. There is a 25 amp fuse in the battery line right by the battery box. Mine was popped. Also, if your converter has the reverse polarity fuses, be sure they are both seated correctly. I did this and now I have lights off the battery when unplugged. Of course, now I need to charge the battery because it hasn't been charging while plugged in.

I have a battery disconnect lever or switch in the front hatch. I am not sure if you pull or push it. Not sure how it works.

As soon as it stops raining, I will check on the 25 amp fuse.

Wish I had the disconnect switch, but then again, I will always have hook ups. My wife is not one for boon docking. Good luck with your electrical issue.

Pull the switch out for battery power on the trailer and also for battery charging and electric brakes. If it is pushed in none of these thing will happen.

Many of us keep it out all the time unless in storage or hooked to shore power at home for long periods. If we plug into shore power at home Paul would disconnect the blade fuse at the battery box terminal in order to avoid overcharging the battery because only the co deterctor is drawing off the battery. Easier to get to than the disconnect switch in the front storage of our 189.

Depending on the model of the converter you have, leaving it plugged into the shore line will probable not over charge the battery. I'm my 2010 FF I have a WFCO 8900 series converter that goes into float mode charging if trailer is unattended for 48 hours.

Good point. The converter that we bought this year also has float mode. But the one we replaced didn't.

Like Twinster2 .. in the spring after winter storage, the battery is installed and the camper is plugged into shore power all summer long ~ except when put to use on a trip or weekend adventure.
Before winter it goes into inside storage and the battery is removed....placed in the garage at home and put on a trickle charger w/float mode.
This has always afforded me a "fully charged battery" and the battery cut off switch was pulled out when we purchased the unit and has stayed that way.

It depends on your converter and how it operates. Monitoring the battery water level is important to prevent failure. Some converters don't have float mode which prevents overcharging and water boil off.

Thank you for the reply. I checked my fuse at the battery box and I had a blown 30 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse and all is good.

Wonderful the issue is resolved.
As for battery charging, you may want to research the brand/model number of your converter.
My camper came with a WIFCO brand, model WF8955PEC that provides ~
The WF-8900 Series has revolutionized RV power centers with its lighter weight, decorative doors and superior features. The WF-8955 model provides 55 amps and a clean, constant 13.6 Vdc nominal output, for reliable operation of electronics and appliances. Automatic three-stage charging extends the life of your battery with output voltage modes of 13.2 Vdc range “float” mode, 13.6 Vdc range “absorption” mode, and a 14.4 Vdc range “bulk” charge mode. The 8900 Series also maintains peace and quiet, as the cooling fan runs only when needed.
The brand/model will be indicated in your camper fuse box.
Happy camping!
