Battery Question

Looking for recommendations on best battery for a 16ft Funfinder. TIA

On an even smaller trailer ( an X-139), I use two group 31s by NAPA. One battery is in use, and the other is a spare. Each is rated at 110 amp hours.

But honestly, that may be overkill for most folks. We do a lot of off-grid boondocking in cold weather, so we need a lot of juice for the furnace and the water heater, even with a solar panel.

Thanks. We're learning along the way and found out the battery we bought in the spring wasn't what we need. We do need something that will run heat if we need it and lights.

Thanks for your help. We missed the deep cycle part when we purchased a marine battery in the spring. We found out the hard way they don't hold a charge. Again, thanks for the information.

This is what I use for my camper.....deep cycle type of course.

Optima batteries are the BEST IMO.

I've also used them in vehicles....some for in excess of 10 years without a problem.

We use 2 6v Kirkland (built by Interstate) golf cart batteries on our 189 fds. Couldn’t be happier. Easily go 5 days (w/o hookups). Trojan batteries are the best.

I run lifelines. I'm on my second set. The first set lasted 9 years. The secret to having your batteries last is making sure you have at least a 3 stage charger and that it is set to the correct profile for your battery type. I use a 3 stage charger and equalization stage and set the controller to flooded on my Morningstar Prostar 30 for my AGM batteries . I only use solar for charging the batteries. The converter is not used anymore. Even during winter I just clear off the snow off the panels and let them charge the system. Even if I have an electric site the 12 volt side only runs off the batteries and charges from solar, shade or sunshine it will charge. You just have to manage your power. I use a trimetric to monitor the usage. Many people are using the Victron line with good results as well.

I use two Trojan 12 volt deep cycle high capacity batteries. They are larger than regular 12 volt batteries so I had to mount larger battery boxes on the tongue of my 189FBS.

Marmot, how many amp hours do your Trojans contain? (Pardon the fractured electrical syntax -- you know I mean capacity.) . And how heavy are they?
