Default Dometic refrig question

2004 160X FF shadow cruiser with Dometic no temp control refrigerator... Unit has been off for day or two, when on/off button is pushed to ON n button is put to GAS, the pilot lights, small blue flame....am I supposed to get a larger flame till unit reached factory setting n then go back to pilot....OR...is the small flame all I get? Small flame is all I ever get! Unit works great on elect. When unit loses AC does refig auto switch to gas operation? Gas would be on to operate water heater. In photo I am trying to attach is a small diam blue wire coming from the black fuse box in the drive guts area, it has a round very small push on connector...know where it goes? My 12v battery is toast, don't think that has any bearing on my posting. I can live without gas operation but would at least like to know if it works.Click image for larger version

As an afterthought, we feel the bottom part of the frige does not get as cold as it should, the freezer does a great job.

What model is your Dometic fridge? It should be on a plate inside the door.
Also, you say that you can't control the temperature. There should be a temperature sensor with a wire that you slide up and down on one of the fins at the top of the refrigerator inside. Up for colder and down for colder.
Also, there was a recall on Dometic fridges. Most likely yours was included being an older model, but I don't know for sure. It may have had the fix. If not, it is free at an authorized Dometic dealer. Our dealer did ours. The fix was needed due to fires. Better safe than sorry we thought.

You just plug your model number and serial number into the link above to find out if yours was recalled. But Dometic should be able to tell you if it was fixed.
Our dealer told us ours didn't have the fix and they got the kit to do it quickly. That is for our current Shasta. We had already sold the Funfinder when I found out about the recall.

I have looked at the flame while it is in operation and have never noticed a change in size -- it is either on or off. And it is not a big flame at all. Not sure if different models operate differently.

Been on gas since yesterday, freezer is 20 n frig 40. Took off tin jet shroud, nice row of blue flames. Blue wire is still mystery. Soapy water trick on all gas joints..no bubbles! Check temp in morning, looking for lower temps!

Look at the installation manual listed above. Looks like the blue wire is a test point unless the fridge is one that will work on 12v only (no propane). Those units are rare and not likely the one you have.

Freezer should be degrees or lower.
1. Did you take the monitor thingy up higher on the fin.
2. Is the refrigerator level?
We have put those plastic ice blocks in ours in the past when we wanted to travel with it off.
Hmmmmm....

Good plan. You'll need it. We're a little unsure of ours too. We are plugged into shore power or pulling it pretty much all of the time. We need to unplug and load test it. We bought this RV in March.

I was aiming my battery situation towards my frige problem. Read that it, the frige, needs a constant 12v power source to make certain things operation/work. True?

Yes. The control board needs 12V to operate properly.

I agree with the previous poster, the frig needs 12 volts DC and LP gas to run when the shore line is not plugged into a 110 volts AC source.

When the shore line is plugged into 110 volts AC, the converter will produce its on 12 volts DC to supply to the frig control board and 110 volts AC will will be used to heat a coil of wires in the back of the frig thus eliminating the need for a LP flame to be used.

Hurray! We just started ours on house power. Should be cooled down by morning. Or maybe we'll put it on gas in the morning. We're heading up to the tip of the lower peninsula (Michigan) tomorrow for two nights. Wilderness State Park. Beautiful place!! We go every so often. I would post photos but no one has responded to me regarding why I can't.
