On this general subject, I keep a aerosal can of silicone spray in the toolbox of the truck, and give all that connection a brief spray regularly.

I dunno about your unit but my sewer drain cap is about a 10"/12" inside the outer edge of the camper .... no way to hit it just walking by.

The wrench is ok but just another loose item to forget or lose ... bolted on items aren't forgot or lost.

However, I don't think I'd use an aluminum bar but rather a tough piece of ABS plastic.

I've used the silicone spray and it helps.

Just my thoughts....and to each their own.

There will come a time when I will need that lever -- great idea! Silicone spray is also a good idea -- it does not accumulate grit, unlike lithium grease. WD-40 might work, too.

In fact, I am adding "spray the sewer valves" to my pre-trip prep list. Thanks for the reminder!

Spray silicone works just fine. I had some of this around from working on water systems and found it tends to last longer than the spray.

Yes sir, the spray stuff....it's main weakness is it leaves very darn little silicone after the solvent carrier evaps. For sure it doesn't last long. At least it's easy.

EDIT: going back to the original post of this thread, I could see what a person "could" do that might be a little easier to use than just the bare cap, would be to attach a decorative drawer pull, like what might be on a kitchen drawer. Just a thought.

Yes, it is 'food grade' that is safe to use on 'O' rings, etc. in potable water systems like water softners, reverse osmosis sytems, etc. and on scuba equipment.

Food grade silicone used outside the body for food contact is chemically inert, stable, won’t leach into food, or off-gas.

The FDA regulate silicones used in food contact under the auspices of the Center for Food Safety and Nutrition (CFSAN) and for use in pharmaceuticals under the auspices of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).

There is also 'medical grade' silicone........

Medical grade silicones are generally grouped into three categories: non implantable, short term implantable, and long-term implantable. Materials approved as Class V and VI can be considered medical grade. Most medical grade silicones are at least Class VI certified. Silicone suppliers and some silicone prototyping companies provide guidelines for material use.

One again, knowledge is power.
