Well I finished the step illumination project. Its not perfect but it is better than no lights at all. I can illuminate the top step just fine, but the bottom step is in the shadow of the top step and get very little light. Fortunately, I can still make out the bottom step, just wish it was a little brighter. I could add a third marker light, but i don't think it will help much. Below are some pictures.

I did about the same thing except I used a 14" strip of 12 volt blue LED lights fastened to the bottom of the camper just above where the steps fold into.
They give plenty of light to see the steps and are not annoying to other campers.

Good info. I think I need to light our steps as well.
Something else I'd like is a 12v motion sensing light:

This is the last update, I promise. After using it with two lights for a few days, I decided to add a third marker light to the array. This provides a little more light to illuminate the steps. It's now finished and I can move on to other projects.
