Wink Newbie 2012 Fun Finder

Hello Everyone, We just purchased our x189fbs ...as of today we have been out three times. The little trailer is mint with every think working! a problem with the brake connection a little more strength is needed pushing it in. The question I have is the jack knife sofa. I think within a year we would like to change it. Has anyone attempted this project? Thank you, Barbara

Hello - good to hear from you.

Just bought a used 210 with the slide and the jack knife sofa.

The jack knife sofa was removed and a wooden platform built for a bed. It seems to work just fine.

I can post pictures if you wish.

Default Sofa Bed

This is the modification as it is in the couch or bench mode.

Remove the cushions and pull out the slat board bottom to make the bed wider. This is how we bought it - we will make improvements during the repairs.Click image for larger version

This is a pic of the slates. It is very strong and sturdy

This is the work in progress. We removed everything and will replace the slide bottom which is the base of the couch bench. Then we'll replace the slats and cushions. Not sure why it the picture rotated. Can't edit?

With the prior design, it was open.

With the rebuild and modifications, we plan on creating a storage place for bins or drawers.

We are thinking of a second platform, maybe a "bunk bed" design so that a family with 2 children could make this work?

My husbands laughing at me . Disregard what I thought I was looking at.
That's a great idea, like the fact the floor is the same underneath.

Hi Barbara, welcome to you and hubby to the Forum and to the world of trailering!! We have an XT-190 Xtra... Pretty close to the size of yours, but ours is a toy hauler... We have to keep the J-Knife couch as it needs to fold up for the ATV and then triples as a couch, dining table seating, and a bunk...

Good luck to you folks and we hope you have as much fun as we have... This year it is going to be to learn Minnesota...

Thank you for the welcome John. Rob and I like the sofa but the sofa is a little soft for my liking.
I will try to figure something out...wish I could add something to it.
The new sofa starts around 700.00
That's too much for now.

Hmmm, Florida; there ought to be a ton of boat upholstery shops that can throw a new cusion together for a good price...

Good hi-density foam is pricey. It seems that many people find jack knife sofas uncomfortable, even though handy. But if you do go the diy route you might like the Sailrite site. Www.sailrite.com
They have lots of how to videos and supplies on there. Great people to work with.

I like the design, I might try it on my couch, except I don't want anyone else sleeping on here, lol

What is the door in the slide wall for? And is the black mechanism something that was added or is it the mechanism for the former jackknife couch? The rotated photo happened because it was taken in portrait mode I'm thinking.

There is (was) a storage compartment there. Before the mod the top of the storage compartment forms a windowsill of sorts along the wall behind the sofa. It's near where all of the hookups are so on mine I store the water hose, shore power cord, surge guard, water filter, etc. in there.

Oh, so is it shallow? Oh wait, I see it in the photo...a boxed in area. Is the black thing original or added? Believe it or not I have a reason for all of these questions.
