Default Silicone or not

Seems like alot of people say not to use silicone for sealing the TT/RV. I am in the process of replacing the door frames and glass on the TT door. The instructions that came with the plastic window frames say to use silicone. The original plastic frames held the glass in with double sided tape. I spoke to a guy at the local RV repair shop he said they use putty tape.

The thing about silicon is that once you use it, you will not be able to use it or anything else in the same location again without sanding the area first. The reason is that Silicon caulking once cured will not stick to anything else, not even itself. So if you have to remove the door again for any reason, you will have to remove all traces of silicon on the surfaces before reinstalling and caulking the door or it will leak. I would use butyl rubber caulking or a good grade of latex caulking for the job.

I used proflex to glue the glass to the plastic frame seems to have worked good. ill use the tape putty or bytle to seal the frame to the door.
