Thinking about replacing my water pump.
After finishing my 12 day camping trip and using the shower for four days, I have just about decided that a new water pump is in the near future. I measured the pump flow and got less than 2 gallons per minute, which is pretty low. Based on my accumulator tank, the pressure is less than 20 PSI and the shower output is pathetic. Anyway, I thinking about buying this pump:

Before getting a new pump, maybe try bumping up the pressure in the accumulator?? Mine is supposed to be at 29 pounds and it works fine. There is a valve on the accumulator. I use a bicycle pump. Be sure to monitor the pressure as you pump -- I have heard that over-pressure can rupture the diaphragm inside the accumulator tank.

Yea, I tried varying the pressure on the accumulator. That is how I discovered that the pump is only putting out less than 20 psi. The easy way to check this is to incrementally increase the bladder pressure. When you get to a pressure where the pump is always running when the faucet is open a little, that is your maximum pump pressure. Mine was about 19 psi.

Well I bought the pump for about $57. Ordered it Wed and got it Sat, pretty impressive. Rated at 55 psi and it suppose to be quiet.

Tried out the new pump. Wow, I actually have water pressure at the faucet and shower head. Its pretty quite and I no longer need a accumulator tank because it has a by-pass valve that allows the pressure to stay pretty constant.

That's a good price on that pump. I've had this on my to do list for a while, but I've been going to full hookup sites lately so it's not been a priority. The best price I've found is Adventure RV for $60 + S&H. Good to know how well it works.

Bought it on ebay from BigDaddyRVParts for $57 shipped. The price went up a buck to $58 since I bought it. Time will tell how reliable it is, but for now, its great. I will throw the old pump in the trailer as a spare, just in case.

Thanks for the link, that's an awesome price with shipping included. Most of the places I've looked want at least another $10 for shipping.
I would think reliability would be pretty good. Shurflo is owned by Pentair who also makes swimming pool equipment and have a really good reputation.

Well, although the Shurflo 4008 Revolution pump states that an accumulator tank is not necessary, I decided to try adding one anyway since I had one from my previous pump. The outcome of the two is fantastic. Pressure is maintained around 40 psi and the pump does not come on immediately when the faucet is open at a trickle.
