I replaced the outlet in the TV shelf today on my 189 FBR. I wanted one of the ones with USB ports to charge phones etc... I was surprised the type of outlet it was. The Job is never as easy as you think it will be. First the outlet was just in the wall with no box. IT was like an old work box. It had ears that opened when you turned the mounting screws. What concerned me the most was how wires attach. They attach just like those little vampire taps you see on a lot of 12v stuff. You just lay the black, white and ground wire in the groves and put the back on. This will then push the wires into the metal groves to pierce the insulation and provide power to the outlet.
I just put in an old work box, installed the new outlet with USB ports. Now I have a nice charge location for my cell phone when hooked to power.
Those are called speedbox outlets and are used by all RV manufacturers. Reason being that the screws on residential type outlets can come loose in RV applications due to trailer/RV motion while traveling. They actually cost more than the residential type. So far I haven't found one that has USB outlets built in though.

Interesting. Never thought of that. I just put in an old work box and used the pushin holes in the back of the new outlet.
