Default water heater drain?

2006 160X FF Shadow Cruiser. I am a fan of draining the water heater tank after every use. Yesterday I replaced the anode in my tank.....nothing but bare rod and residue was all in the bottom. PO apparently never changed it out or cared less. Anyway, after flushing and getting crud out it dawned on me that there is no way to drain the tank without removing the anode and opening the relief valve! Our prior RV, a Casita, had a plug...unscrew it, open relief valve n out came water. Am I missing something on my FF on how to drain tank, or do I just leave water in it till next adventure?

That is the only way to drain my water heater, a Surburban brand ......... remove the plug with the anode rod and let the water run out.

Thought so. Casita had the right idea with drain plug, but had to go inside, lift a seat to get to anode. Searching for a lone 1 1/16" socket. Tnx for input.

Camco sells anodes with drains. Just search anode with drain on eBay.

Be aware, with those, one must use a deep well 1 1/6" socket to remove them and adequate clearance above the door sill to get the socket square on.

I put the camco anode rod with the drain cock on it in my Suburban heater. The Camco rod has 1/2"NPT threads. The original anode rod has 3/4"NPT threads, so I bought a brass reducer bushing at Lowe's in order to install this.

Just FYI....went to WalMart website, saw my anode by Camco listed at around $11 n change, ordered it and checked "at store pickup"... They offer a discount for that, after discount was applied I paid $5 n change .. Can't beat that!

We only drain our tank at the end of the season because our water heater is dual gas/electric and if the power is inadvertently turned on when there's no water in the tank, the electric element is instantly toast! I like the fact that the anode rod has to be removed because it gives me the opportunity to inspect it and make sure it doesn't need to be replaced. I might skip that step if I could
