Not aware of the $50 for the hitch ball as the site shows them from about $22 - $30 depending on weight designed to pull. The balls are specifically made to fit the hitch head plus the shank dimensions are specific:
Ball diameter: 2-5/16"
Shank dimensions: 2-1/4" long x 1-1/4" diameter
Weight capacity: 14,000 lbs.
2-year warranty
The ball and installation was included in my hitch purchase price so ?
However, the torque foot lbs to secure the shank nut requires the use of a 3/4" drive torque wrench capable of 430 ft. lbs. ~ and a "good" ones costs $400 - $800 (a quality Snap-On wrench is near $1,000
