Tips for towing please
Goodnight. I bought a t139 and I have a 2008 liberty diesel. and have a sway control. I've never towed one of these and I've always had pop up. What has been your experience ? Any advice.I hope this weekend to tow to the beach
Also in Cota Rica there are almost no campers.
Thanks
.

Luis, bienvenidos!! If you are driving from San Jose to Jaco or Playa Hermosa, you will have no problem -- just keep your speed down and use your gears to slow down on the downhills. When you shift to a lower gear, your engine compression will reduce your speed.
If you are going all the way out to the Nicoya Peninsula, be very careful when going over the ditches and the small creeks. Also, on some of the roads near Santa Teresa and Mal Pais, there are low branches that could damage the air conditioner on the roof.
We had a T-139 for several years and towed with a Nissan Pathfinder. We now have an X-139 (the same size and weight) and we tow with a Toyota Tacoma.
Are you going to an RV park with hookups? Or are you going to camp on the beach? Let us know how it went!! Buena suerte, y pura vida!

Your liberty should tow it fine. Make sure you have a good sway control system because the short wheel base of your liberty will exacerbate sway.

One more idea -- make sure that you have plenty of tongue weight. In other words, load the trailer so that it pushes down at the front. That will help reduce sway.

Unless replaced with others, the tires should be ST tires with a speed rating of 65 miles per hour. Exceeding that is not advisable.

Eagle, that is good advice. But having driven a few times in Costa Rica, I can tell you that the traffic almost never reaches 65 mph (over 100 kph), even on the few freeways.
Potholes, however, are a big problem!
I am hoping that Luis will answer and tell us how his trip went.

Luis, we pulled our 189fbr with our gas Jeep Liberty. That’s a bit bigger than yours. We had anti-sway bars and never had a problem, even on the hills. Your Liberty should do just fine. Hope you are enjoying it. You live in a beautiful place.
