Default Tow vehicles

i towed my new 2009 funfinder 189fbr on a 350mile trip this weekend.

tow vehicle is a 2009 toyota tacoma v6 6spd (276hp).

Normal highway mileage not towing is 19-21mpg

I got 7-10 mpg and am wondering is this normal.

can you give me some more info about your tow vehicles and recommedations

thanks in advance for responding

Tow Vehicle: 2008 Acadia SLT2 V6 6spd Auto 288hp & 288 tq.
Normal highway driving: 25-26mpg
Towing @ 108km/hr: 9.5mpg

Unfortunately gas mileage sucks, and it's too depressing to watch, except I need to plan out my gas stops now.

Not much can be done, except maybe slow down (or buy a seasonal lot).

With my Ford Explorer V8 I usually get 19-20 mpg not towing. Towing the 16 ft Funfinder I get a consistent 12.5 mpg through hilly country. I believe the larger engine just works at a lower stress level and more efficiently.

Yep, that is normal. Your mpg is always gonna go in the tank when your towing.

I just upgraded my tow vehicle from an F-150 w/ 5.4 v8 that was getting 8-10 while towing to an F-350 6.4 diesel that gets 11-14 while towing.

Default Tow Vehicle - 2008 Chevy Trailblazer with in line six

When we moved up to a 189 FBS from our Aliner we had to upgrade our Equinox. We tried pulling with the Equinox, but the loaded trailer was too much for the vehicle. Primarily the front wheel drive and tranny were not adequate for British Columbia mountain terrain. Enter the Trailblazer. I cannot say enough about this TV after hauling through some of the most mountainous roads in our province. Firstly 15-17 MPG! Optimum if traveling under 100 KPH (60 MPH). This truck hauls like a Kenworth. I pull in third and that seems to be where the vehicle is happiest. It shifts down when necessary to second, and only in the most severe of climbs did I manually shift into first, and only to finish off the worst of the hill. I use a single arm equalizer hitch with no wandering or reaction to big rigs either going or coming. These two units seem like they were born for each other. I have owned nine RV's of various configurations, and have never had such a good combination. Glad I saved the best for last.

flugelboneman,
No offense, but I think you're calculations are skewed...especially traveling through the mountains.

Diesels don't even get that good mileage towing..

Okay, Okay, call me a liar for a couple of MPG's. I do recall now that I was down to about 12 MPG in the really hard part. However, all in all, our average would be close to 15 MPG. That is calculating with the big (British) Gals. of course. My right-hand Gal is the calculator and she is generally very precise with her computations. We are consistently getting better mileage when not towing than other reports. Chalk it up to very talented driving techniques. (Making a JOKE!)

Ok.. that makes more sense.. I'm going off my DIC (driver info center), and I believe that calcs with US Gal.

You had me second guessing my choice of TVs.
I had almost bought a Trailblazer SS Awd. such a nice truck, not much for mileage though with the 6L V8.

Must be the driver... I tend to be alittle lead footed. That ice cold beer and campfire are always calling my name..

Yep, I hear ya on the cold beer. I guess my scottish heritage supersedes my thirst on these trips, and I back off with the "heavy foot". Still in all, I lusted after an Acadian. The only problem was there were no pre-owned, and I did not want to shell out for a new vehicle.

Hey, cool. Mebbe we'll meet going over the Roger's Pass. However, our next big trip is to Brookings Oregon for a winter break. Used to tow to Yuma, but Brookings is half the distance, and a great little community on the ocean. Lovely RV parks too, mostly empty in the winter, but more Snowbirds all the time.
