Towing With Equinox
Howdy & Thx for the response.
We were pulling a 189 FBS with our Equinox. Weighed the trailer and it was 3600 lbs, not counting me, the wife and the dog. So we were over the 3500 lb. capacity. We towed some short hauls. The 'Nox towed very well as far as no sway etc., but the power band was quite limited. We pulled up a small mountain pass and the tranny did not like it much. I was towing in L4 I believe, the second position on the shift. The tranny kept hunting for a lower gear, and there was only one left. So down into the lowest gear, which really slows things down.
The upshot? We now have a Chev Trail Blazer sitting in the garage. Tow rating of 6000 lbs, and yanks that FF around like a baby carriage. Fuel consumption is equal to the 'nox when towing, which is around 17 MPG. Prior to the FF we were towing an Aliner with the Equinox, which was an absolute pleasure plus 24 MPG. That's what footitis and the quest for a biffy in the RV will get you. But we think we have the ideal combination now.
