Default FF 265RBSS First Real Outing Review

Since it's typically rare to see anyone not complaining about their TT in most forums, I thought I would share this. We took our new 2015 265RBSS out for it's first real trip last week. We ventured to Memphis for some blues and BBQ and stayed at the Memphis Jellystone RV Resort which I highly recommend. Back to the FF though, when de-winterizing for this trip, I found that the slide would not go out. One side was moving out normally and the other side would move an inch or two then both would stop. I accessed the slide controller under the bathroom sink and it was flashing the code for "Hall Sensor Shorted". I removed the connectors leading to the motors and checked the wires with a multimeter and found neither of them to be shorted.

I then was gradually able to move the slide out far enough to get to the seal on the offending side and pull it down enough to access the motor. There are a number of youtube videos on how to remove/replace these motors on the Schwintek/Lippert slideouts including one on the Lippert website. Once I had access to the motor, I found that 2 of the sensor wires on the motor harness had broken off right where they were stripped back for soldering to the little circuit board for the Hall Effect sensor. Most likely due to being cut too deeply when they were stripped. Since my dealer is 250 miles away, I called Lippert and was able to arrange a replacement to be sent to me. It took less than an hour to replace and now the slide operates perfectly and I still have the old motor which I repaired for a spare.

With all of that said, everything else on the FF worked flawlessly on the trip! There were no surprises and the systems all worked as expected. The one change we made was to replace the shower head with a Oxygenics Body Spa unit which is excellent! I'm not a fan of campground showers especially when this trailer has a really nice shower and large bathroom. I was able to take a relatively normal shower and did not even run out of hot water although I didn't tarry long in there, just got it done. Overall, our experience with this new TT has been great and the one problem I did have was easily dealt with and did not affect our trip at all. Chalk one up for FF and an apparently good job by our dealer Holman RV in prepping this unit for us. Good experience!

Thanks for the update and the good news with the FF camper.

Most only post problems, not when everything goes well.

How do you see the dealer as having done a good job when the slide-out wasn't functioning ? To be honest, most people would not have been able to diagnose and fix that issue. Kudos to you for that and also your positive attitude

Also curious if your slide out has the large acme thread type bars underneath the slide out or the side strips of serregated metal ?

Yoly, it has the side bars just like yours I suspect since that is the typical Lippert/Schwintek setup on the Cruiser models. As for the dealer prep, we bought it last September and the slide worked perfectly right up until I winterized it. The motor had at some point gotten moisture on it even though there are no leaks around the seals, I suspect condensation could be the culprit. Before putting the new motor in place I covered the circuit board with a bit of silicone dielectric grease which should prevent that from happening again.

We have the Lippert chassis but not the Schwintek slide-out. We have the two large bars with the acme type thread on top mounted below the slide-out. The sides of the slide-out are smooth fiberglass

The tech that did the PDI said he preferred the older style like we have over the Schwintek. He said ours was the first FF he had seen like this.
