Storage locker keys.

As many of you know the keys that we received to lock our outside storage lockers (CH751 on the key) are shared by many (perhaps 80%!) of other RV owners. That means that anyone who uses this particular key can open someone else's locks.
We will be changing ours out because we anticipate being away from our trailer for periods of time while camping. Check this out.

CH751 is not only shared by other RVers but a lot of other people as well! I did commercial HVAC work before retiring. I have rings and rings of the CH751 keys left over from work. Many equipment control panels, electrical panels and access doors for building maintenance have the CH751 lock. And they all came with two to four extra keys.

There are many thousands of those keys out there.

Thanks for the added info on this. Do you have those locks? Did you change yours out? The storage compartment contains some expensive items on most RVs. Best to keep them safer and thwart the bad guys.

....if you walk up to my camper while out and about, don't be trying to jimmy my locks !! Just open it up.... I leave it unlocked

It would be so easy to break into one of these things it ain't even funny. So I just leave it unlocked. Besides, sometimes my dog is in here by herself, and I have one of those signs on the outside that says, "pet inside, please rescue in case of emergency". I would hope if needed someone would get her out.

Yes, I agree that the lock would only slow someone down for a bit. We have the pet signs on our home doors. The door in the RV has two locks, one a deadbolt. They use s different key. Biggest scare with leaving a pet inside to me would be carbon dioxide. We have a detector but that is only good if someone hears it and does something about it I guess. The pet can't. So making sure all of the connections are good and the appliances are in good repair is important. Our dogs will always be with us but if the cats go they won't.

You can have a locksmith rekey one of your locks. Simply remove the lock from the door and take in to a locksmith. Have them show you how to DIY rekey the lock. Have them cut you 2 keys. You go home and rekey the remaining locks yourself. Total cost: $10 (Tennessee) Now my key opens the exterior cubbies, exterior shower door and the locking door to my truck's gas cap as well as the front window cover (2012 210UDS has it.)

and they will not stop, only delay, the determined criminal.

I suppose it's useless to lock the doors since the robber would be able to get in anyway, unless you want to make sure you could file an insurance claim for the pilfered goods. Of course you could try to make it look like the crook broke in after the fact. But that could get you in trouble for insurance fraud. Nah...best to lock the doors and maybe change the cylinders out.

I don't believe it's useless. Most thieves are 'opportunists' seeking an easy target.

I NEVER leave an open invite or allow easy access to my property or possessions.

Home, garage, storage building, vehicles, camper & generators, etc. are ALWAYS secured with locking devices when I'm not present. As a matter of habit, nothing is left unsecured even if only away for a few minutes.

Given opportunity and time, a crook will always get what they want, however, I will not be an 'enabler' with open access nor will I leave valuables out in the open as a clear invite......and that is only sane, common sense IMO.

For those who could not tell..,I was being facetious in my "useless" comment. But we actually never locked the doors in our last house for many years. Then society changed and we did.
