Default Trip Report: Snow Camping in the Sierra

We just got back from a few days in the Sierra -- there was about six inches of snow when we got there, but much of it melted while we were there. Anyway, I am attempting to post a link to our blog -- not sure if the link will work:

Great pics and nice write up.

Living in the midwest, 6" of snow is nothing so always amazed when mention is made of 'closing roads' when a few flakes fall.

Your camera takes great pics ... although I'm not a camera person, just wondering what kind it is.

Glad you had a great time. Did I mention great pics too.

Default DSLR

It's true that they close the roads too quickly in Calif -- too many flatlanders, like me, who don't know what they can and can't handle. Folks who are ignorant and unprepared go into the mountains with ordinary passenger cars, get stuck, and die, every year. So the highway maintenance people are very cautious.

Anyway, I have been using a DSLR for the last several years. My latest is a Pentax K-30. It permits me to control a lot of the variables -- white balance and so forth. I also use a polarizing filter for most of my daytime shots -- not in low light or in darkness. Then I process the shots in Picasa, and I am starting to use Lightroom for the trickiest lighting.

All of this takes some getting used to, and the camera is heavy and bulky, compared to a point and shoot. But the photos are my attempt to literally capture a slice of our camping trips. Someday, we will not be able to do these adventurous trips anymore, so the photos will help fill the gap.
