Default What fun did you have with your FF today?

Since we are busy on the sticks and bricks, or make that sticks and steel, I'd like to hear what you are doing. It's been so long since we've done anything remotely resembling fun that I think we've forgotten how.

What are you doing to your RV? We just ordered a Champion inverter generator so that we can Camp in the less crowded places. We like to just go explore around our great state for two night stints. In September we'll be taking an 11 night trip all around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan if all goes well.

Today's fun is getting ready for our next trip, starting Aug 11, to Idaho and Montana. Somehow, working on the trailer is more fun than most other purely recreational activities.

Michigantraveler, we are building a barndominium, and our FF is parked inside the barn while we build out the house part. We've been living in the FF since April 1 and haven't done a thing to it that wasn't an emergency. When we first moved out here, electricity was supposed to be connected within a few days. We had a generator and thought we could stand the noise (it was a really loud one) for a few days. We were already using the generator during the day to run the mitre saw and hand tools. But then it went kaput and we bought a little 3400 Champion from CW. Soooo much quieter and we can stick in the back of the pickup when we go camping. Turns out we lived here without electricity for 5 weeks before they finally got our electricity hooked up. And FYI, the 3400 Champion runs 8-1/2 hours with the a/c on, and not a moment longer. Dh filled it at 9pm when we went to bed and I had the privilege of filling it again at 5am before it ran out again. That got really old.

Profdant, that sounds like a great trip. And cool. How I would love the cool weather right now. What are you going to do on your trip?

Marti, check out Pure Living For Life on YouTube. They have been living in a FF189fbr for over a year while they develop their property in the northwest (Idaho?). They put the FF in a big cloth garagelike thing. Then they build a shack on the front with s woodstove. Oh, and a hot tub deck (???). They did put in a septic in the Rocky earth. And I think they have electric. Anyway. We haven't followed them for a while but your dream reminds me of theirs. I think they are still living in the FF.

Oh yeah! I've seen that. Their FF had some kind of problem so it had to be covered, right? They have, or had, it a lot worse than us. At least we are in a big, dry, barn and don't have to deal with cold. Now hot is another matter. This has been a hot and humid summer here.

Marti, we are headed to Idaho for the eclipse, and then on to Montana and Northern Washington. We hope to be on the road for a month.

We are leaving mid August and heading north for the eclipse in Oregon. We have friends in the Salem/Silverton area where we can park the TT. Looking forward to cruising on the OR and CA coast on the way back.

In the next day or so will check over the XT-276 Toy Hauler for the trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

It's the ONLY place I've seen two other 276's and a few years back, there was one parked right next to mine.

Enjoy! Wish we could make another trip back to S. Dakota, but school starts soon and I may be having knee surgery soon, so it's a distant dream

All these trips sound enjoyable. Wish we could go too.

I did do something FF related. I built a counter top extension. Not crazy about the color, but I wanted to see what the stain looked like.

Thank you Kansas.

You are not far away and perhaps you will make it back again.

Best results on your knee surgery. Have known several that had it done ~ successfully too.

Not today but a few days ago after washing the exterior including the roof:

1. Drained the fresh water tank.
2. Checked the underneath so all in order (tied up wires that had dropped down)
3. Completely cleaned the interior.
4. Made sure all perishables were removed.
5. Winterized the unit (had night temps drop to 23 degrees since)
6. Put out six 'Fresh Cab' rodent deterrent packs.
7. Verified tires were aired to 55 PSI. .. including spare tire.
8. Verified propane tanks were filled/turned off.
9. Verified all vents/windows were tightly closed.

The camper will go into storage in a few days. Once delivered to the storage location, the battery will be removed, taken home and put on a battery tender.

Delivery date to the storage location is the 18th of this month and won't see it again until spring.

Sounds like she's ready for hibernation. We still have one more trip planned on the 24th. Heading up to the top of the Leelenau Peninsula to Leelenau State Park. No hook ups there. Rustic. Hope the weather is good.

Wow. Sounds like you want some Lake Superior weather. Have fun.

We will probably to a short hop over to one of the local state parks in a few weeks, then put her away for the winter. It will probably be rustic except for electric since the state closes the showers/toilets near the end of October.

Um...that would be Lake Michigan . Lol! We live in the north so the weather will be similar to what we have here.
Lots of the State Parks close toward the end of October. Platte River stays open all winter. Living so far north it's s long drive south, only 70 to Leelenau SP.

I have taken my camper to the local fairgrounds where I have rented indoor storage for the winter and there it will stay until spring.

Sadly, they raised the rate somewhat but probably worth the $180 to keep it inside/out of the snow for the winter months.

this is an old thread, but why not.
today we continued going over seams that need attention, and then the seams and calking is good. the front of our t139 has some rough spots. a bit of soft wood, some places the table has rubbed off the wall finish, the blinds needed the strings to be "re-balanced". we had already taken off the valances because they blocked a lot of window. I haven't decided what, if anything, I want to put over the top of the blinds. I'm getting used to the clean, uncluttered look. We decided we would probably never use the bunk over the dinette, so took it out. carefully, and saved all of the hardware and the wooden panels.
I do want some kind of shelf, but would like it a bit higher than the bunk was.
I had some paintable wallpaper that we hung from midway down on the front. It looks good and will look better when I match the color and paint it, then install a new piece of wooden molding to replace the old strip.
I think next is some kind of table or bed modification.
I sure enjoy making this little camper "ours"!!

We took out the bunk and put in cargo netting for the bedding -- very easy and useful project. It is the first item in this blog post:

I picked up my camper from the winter storage at the local fairgrounds today and brought it home.

Maybe next week the temperatures will get into the 60's and then will give it a spring bath and clean the inside too. Then it will be onto the spring maintenance aka pre-trip checkout.
