Yes, the buffalo are big and always amazed at the stupid people who get close to them for photos....see it every year when in the Black Hills. The buffalo can and do move lighting fast. Noise, even from motorcycles does not frighten them.

Will be in the Black Hills for the 77th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August...just over a month away.

Hey Kansas, enjoyed your photos. We haven't been there for 27 years. Lots of great things to see. I see you also discovered that portrait pictures on this site turn sideways. I never heard from Janet so I still can't post public pictures to the site. It's a real bummer. We just got back from a short two night trip. Had a great time with our three girls (dogs).

Perhaps you will get the opportunity to visit again and see more of the Black Hills.

Are you staying in the self contained section? Does that mean boondocking? It looks like the other choices are 5 nights?

Yes ~ no hookups. There is only a very limited number of sites with electric only at this campground.

I have stayed here for decades when tenting it and now with the toy hauler. Nice, clean, and quiet other than some highway noise.

And unlike most campgrounds during Bike Week, one isn't required to rent an entire week for $1,200 or more even if only staying a few days.

Also, the little 'cafe' food is good and reasonable priced too.

Good. Things have certainly changed since we were there in 1990. The 50th. Much larger!!! And $$$$

Yes, it's nothing like it used to be. Then again, now some promotion corporation has taken over and it's all about the $$$$$$$$ for them. Vendors pay horribly high prices to rent a location...and the campgrounds have gone up too.

Staying at Tilford makes it 'affordable' and the only times I've used campground showers and it's OK instead of paying up to $1,800 for a week with full hookups.

I'm not cheap but I am frugal!

It's the way of everything I guess. The places we could go years ago are priced out of our budget and have become so commercialized and overrun with people that we wouldn't want to be there anyway. We almost bought SN in town house in Key West got $70,000 back in 1981. That house now could fetch close to half a million now I guess. Long lines at Yellowstone to just get down the road. Change is the only constant as they say. Glad I lived when I did.

That's correct ~ only open for the Sturgis Rally.

The owners, Tom and Deb are both now retired from federal government jobs and have a small ranch too. This is a family operation with their kids helping and also doing the cooking, etc. Nice people.

Yes, lots more people.

June/July/August busiest months at Yellowstone..from 3/4 million to over 900,000 visitors per month.

Neglected to mention this is one of the few times I use my two Honda EU2000i generators hooked in tandem for power. And will take about a half tank fresh water for stool flushing/washing hands, etc.

I recently saw a Loloho video that made sense to us. It is better to take a full tank of water rather than a partial tank because it tends to travel better. Less movement and more stable when traveling. 20 gal. Of water could be 168 pounds of water sloshing back and forth.

I've always carried about a 1/2 tank of fresh water and never noted any issues...but it does make sense.

Years ago when delivering fuel, at times would get stuck in the snow and with a little back and forth movement, used the sloshing of fuel in the tank compartments to 'push thru' and get moving again.


However, the water slosh in a camper fresh water tank makes more sense if the tow vehicle is loaded beyond it's rated capability. ??

Maybe also in a small trailer without anti-sway bars? Also, where the tank is mounted. In the FF it was up front under the bed. In the Shasta longwise over the axels.

Yes, god points about trailer size/anti-sway bars and tank location as they certainly could impact the effect.
