Default 2010 185FBS - Problem with surge protectors

Hi all,

We have a 2010 Shadow Cruiser 185FBS (our first trailer), and have used it about 3 years now pretty successfully. It always had an issue where when I try and use the 30A shore-power with an in-line surge protector it always pops the safety breaker button in the surge protector. Unfortunately I am past the 2-year warranty I got from our RV place so no coverage to fix it.

Any suggestions on how to even start diagnosing this issue? Maybe a ground fault in our power converter? I'm mostly OK with electrical stuff.

Thanks for any suggestions

Is the air conditioner off when you plug in the shore power?

Also, maybe the problem is in the surge protector?? Is it beefy enough?

Thanks - yes Air Con always off. Also tried flipping individual breakers one at a time - only the main bypass breaker makes a diff. Yes, need to borrow/buy another surge protector (and keep receipt this time) to try - but can only test it at an RV park.

Does the breaker trip if you don't use the surge protector? If not I would suspect the surge protector is your problem. Many of these have a readout on them, does yours display any error codes when the breaker trips?

Thanks. Nope, no breaker issues except with the one on the surge protector. It has no codes just red/green idiot lights. I’ll have to buy/borrow one for next time I do an RV Park. Thanks for your suggestions.
