okallright,
I plan to use either rails or tall brackets rather than VHB tape for a couple of reasons.
1 - We are planning on 250-350 watt solid panels, not the smaller flexible panels
2 - The roof is just a rubber membrane stretched over thin plywood and clamped down by the gutters and end cap trim. There does not appear to be any adhesive between the rubber membrane and the plywood.
3 - I'd like to avoid shadowing from the AC unit and TV antenna and want a good air gap under the panels to keep them and the camper cooler.
I initially considered a hinged arrangement, but we don't have immediate plans to use it in the winter in Maine, so I'm not sure the benefit would be worth the complexity/cost. I also think it would be easy to add hinging later if our plans change.
