Smile 2015 New Owner (What Radio and Speaker/TV Size)

I'm a new owner of a 2015 Fun Finder 242BDS as of today. I'm trying to figure out exactly what radio and speaker size installed? I'm a big electronics person so I'd like to replace all of it

Secondary Question:
What is the largest tv size others have been able to fit that will fit in the turny platform the tv fits in?

Most of the models of that era had Jensen radios -- they were terrible. If you are an electronics expert, removing it and installing a new one will be very easy for you!

Most of the connections on our radio were plug and play -- not soldered, no wire nuts.

The Jensens tended to be very large and very power hungry. In some trailers, there are antenna boosters, which don't work well but which do consume power if accidentally left on.

When you get a new radio, try to find something with good RFI filtering -- the converter often emits a lot of noise. We found that a little CC Crane Skywave was sufficient for our needs, but that would not be good enough for a real audiophile.

Also, look for something with good NOAA shortwave coverage -- it is really handy to be able to monitor the weather while camping.

When you remove the radio, you may discover that there is a lot of wasted storage behind the radio -- you can reconfigure the shelving and gain a lot of space.

For whatever it's worth, this is the type of radio that was in our 2012 X139:

I have never used the radio in my unit - but have used the DVD player built into the radio a few times. Never use any radio in a vehicle nor anywhere. Nothing on them worth listening to IMO.

My 2007 x210 came with a Quest QX-3202DVD "Sound System". Not being an audiophile, it does a reasonable job of what it is supposed to do but a true audiophile would likely be very disappointed. I think that upgrading the speakers would likely be a huge improvement in performance. I like that it has DVD capability and I have a smallish flat screen monitor to use for that purpose but will say we rarely use it. We do use it occasionally for casual "listening pleasure" and have tuned in to local stations to monitor local weather conditions. Having a NOAA weather band option would be a nice addition but since most people have location specific apps on their mobile phones, that issue is moot.
Bottom line, for me, is when I'm camping I try to enjoy the "outdoors" as much as possible ! The OEM system is fine for me. The OP will certainly be able to find something better but I would ask "is it worth the cost?"

We like to listen to CDs when we sit outside during adult beverage hour and watch DVDs in the evening. So when the OE Jensen radio/cd/dvd player died I looked for a quality upgrade with the same features. I found out there isn't one. In order to replicate the features we wanted I would have had to buy multiple components and try to fit them into the space where the existing unit, was which I decided just wasn't worth the cost & effort. So I ended buying a newer model Jensen with the same dimensions and as luck would have it the plugs were the same so no rewiring was needed.

Speakers OTOH should be easily upgradable. IIRC on my trailer the inside speakers are 4" and the outside are 5.25" so lots of choice of quality automotive/marine speakers available.

Rip mentioned that NOAA info is available on the phone. True, but we often camp in areas with no cell service at all -- so the NOAA shortwave radio reports are very important to us.

It is not easy to find a radio that can pull in the NOAA broadcasts.

Slightly off OP's topic but I do have a Radio Shack Handheld SAME WeatherRadio that I use when cell service is poor or not available

Didn't know Radio Shack was still in business. They closed here some 10+ years ago.

Will check the net and see what I can find.

I do believe that RadioShack is no longer in business! I have seen the radio in question for sale by online sellers tho. Perhaps not new in original packaging but still functional. IIRC, I got mine at a garage sale . BTW, the one I have is model # 12-259.

Our 2016 about the same size as yours came with a Furrion stereo system and connection for a Furrion wireless rear camera. I am not impressed with Furrion and the Amazon reviews confirm it. Bass, what's bass? Replacing the stereo and speakers is on my things to improve list.

Default Radio replacement

I replaced the Sony radio/cd player in my 189fbs with a Jensen model JHD1630. This has 7 channel NOAA weather band, SiriusXM, ipod and iphone compatibility, usb, aux in jacks for my mp3 and to play tv sound over ceiling speakers, am/fm, thumb drive compatibility, 4 channel 180 watt power amplifier. It does not have a cd player. I no longer use cd's, having ripped all my cd's onto thumb drives. I also had to replace my outside speakers due to the originals having deteriorated so badly and distorted the sounds. It was easy plug and play after replacing the sony mounting frame with the one that came with the Jensen.

Thanks for all the great responses! I ended up getting new speakers "mine where blown", kinda wish I tested that before buying it! I figured out I can fit a 40inch tv which is great since I'm a electronics nerd "wife hates it lol". I'm going to keep the elite radio for now and replace later when I find a reason to justify changing it, its not great but not horrible...

Next up is adding a load of ground led lights ect.
