Default Axle bearing service & lube

How often do you experienced folks service and lube your travel trailer axle bearings?

Did you lube them right away upon purchase of your new travel trailer?

I've read some about lubing them, type/brand of grease, frequency, etc. and everyone has a different opinion.

The only time I've ever lubed wheel bearings on a motor vehicle is when the hubs were pulled to replace the brake linings.

I didn't get the axle manual that was supposed to be in my packet of info with the XT 276 so will call and ask for one.

Any thoughts or experience about this?

Isn't there grease buddy axles on it? If so just grease up wit ha grease gun. Heck my little Kendon dual rail motorcycle trailer even has them. I can't recall if the 276 has them or not it has been 5 months since I took the flimsy wheel covers off to check the lug torque. BTW all 4 of my flimsy chinese plastic wheel covers had plastic tabs break off. All will be covered under warranty when ever I find time to take it back.

roy,

Becky in parts at Cruiser was very helpful and downloaded the trailer axle manual to my computer.

They use Lippert Components, Inc. axles with the SuperLube hub.

They are similiar to the bearing buddy in that you remove the rubber hub center cap and use a grease gun to pump in grease that goes to the rear bearing and forces grease out the front when it's full of new grease and be sure to spin the tire/wheel when pumping in new grease.

The manual says to pull the hubs ever 12,000 miles or annually to visually clean/inspect the bearings. The seals MUST be replaced whenever the hub is removed from the axle.

The manual says to use Lithium Complex grease NLGI no.2 such as Mobilegrease HP; Exon Ronex MP, Kendall L-427; Valvoline Val-pex EP grease or Pennzoil Premium wheel bearing grease 707L.

And yea, those cheap chinese wheel covers are junk.

Thanks for the info eagle. I got a 1,000 mile trip in less than two weeks but I'm not even going to bother pulling those crap covers again to check for grease. Trailer has the 900 mile delivery on it plus the 100 we put on it to the house it should be fine This year.
