Default axle/suspension problems???

Hi, We're Jeff and Joyce and we are new owners of the 16 foot hybrid (S16H) out this year. We really enjoy camping in the hybrid. When we first got the camper, it was all over the road behind our suv. We had it towed back to our dealer and called Cruiser RV immediately. The manufacturer got with the dealer and they found that the wheel had no bearing. It was fixed that day and the manufacturer also gave us a friction bar which was very good service. Our problem now is we just completed a 1,500 mile trip and the unit can't get over 60mph. It shakes the wheel and you are forced to slow down. Wind conditions and you're down to 45 - 50. It's very annoying. This is our third trailer and we're not at all satisfied. We called the manufacturer during the trip but have not gotten a reply. Tonight we're going back to the dealer and will see what recourse we have. We didn't realize this was a "park model". Will keep everyone informed of the outcome.

Wow, no wheel bearing! How does that happen? Did they replace the entire axle? Running without a wheel bearing surely damaged the spindle I would think.

Hi, I got corrected by Jeff that the bearing was loose; not missing. But it made for a bad driving situation. At one point, we both had our hands on the wheel so we didn't roll or go off the road. (A different kind of adventure) Yesterday our dealer was closed but we'll see if they can do anything else today. I hope. Meanwhile, we're planning the next outing with "the beast". We might have to get there slow but we're still going. It's just frustrating but there's a lot of that going around these days.

I guess the fortunate thing is that there was no running off the road and no injuries. Hopefully the dealer didn't just tighten the bearing without fully checking for further damage. A loose bearing could also have damaged the spindle as well as the bearing itself. If you can have the dealers repair guy ride with you and pull the trailer at highway speed to be sure there's no problem before accepting the repair. As you've already discovered this situation can be downright dangerous if not fixed properly.
