Default Bike Rack for 189 FBR

I tried carrying my bikes on the front of my Jeep using the front receiver hitch, but found that having them there was too much distraction for me.

I don't want to modify the rear of the trailer. Sooooo......

I purchased the "Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk" receiver rack from Etrailers.com. They had the best price at the time. Others have posted about this system and I saw one on my last outing so decided to try it.

When you get one, you only get the bottom part up to the 2" receiver hitch and it adjusts to fit most trailers. Then you supply your own bike rack. I sawed and tweaked my bike rake so it would fit all of my possible placement options snugly. Front of Jeep, rear of Jeep, rear of other Jeep and front of Trailer.

With the bikes loaded, it should ride fine....find out tomorrow. I did some turn tests tonight and as you can see in the pictures, it will handle a full sharp turn (if I turn that one bike tire the other way.)

BUT... I have an 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a sloped back hatch... if you have a Commander or other rig with a square back, then turning sharp could be a problem. I could also slide the main mount 2 more inches backward. Because it sticks up so high, it does shake forward and back a very small amount. It is a little bit of an effort to lift the bikes that high. Not a problem if two people do the lifting. Weight limit is 200lb. No problem servicing the tanks.

We are giving it our first tryout tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Looks good. I've been thinking about either using that or one that clamps onto the ball mount.
