Does your trailer ride high?
I've had my trailer for more than six year now, but it always seemed to be higher off the ground than most. I kind of wish it was lower so my dog and me as I grow older, would not have a difficult time getting in.

Not sure what the model is, or if you got a used one that someone modified to ride higher? Anyway, there are different steps available (3-step, 4-step). Wouldn't be too hard to buy a 3-step set of steps that are almost an easy remove & replace.

It's a 2010 189FBR. Wonder if it had the axles flipped before we bought it used or if they are always high.

You can also get a bigger grab handle. I put one on and it was easy. Doesn't help the dog, however

That would be easy to look under it and find out. Could do a reverse flip......

My '07 x210 appears to ride a bit lower. The pull out step is a single step unit and generally speaking is low enough for both my wife and me. (Sadly, no dog ). I do have the light duty step stool that was suggested that I use for hooking up lights and other tasks on the outside of the camper. It's only about an inch or so shorter than the step but is a larger platform, so it has been used to get in and out of the camper. I don't think it's super strong tho as mine has a slight crack in the middle of the step platform. For the most part, I use the single pull out step.
Since many of the newer rigs have a "push out" that precludes the "wheel wells" that encroach on the "floor space", multiple step pull outs are a given. I'm not so sure that I'm fond of that but understand why it has to be that way. My next camper is sure to have a "push out" (or two ) so I'll have to deal with it.

Too high?
First -- look under the trailer to see if the axles are under or above the leaf springs.
If below -- just take it to a trailer shop and have the "flip" reversed. That will lower the trailer by 4.5".
I just had my 2009 189FBS raised -- so I know the measurement.
If the axles are mounted above the leaf springs -- then that is all you should do -- leave it as-is -- then address sourcing a step assembly with an extra step -- plus a grab bar.
My cost on the axle flip to under the springs was $270 -- just FYI.
Best, Fred

If you do have "flipped axles" I'm not so sure you'll be happy with the "unintended consequences" . Step height will be lower for you and your pooch but the reduced ground clearance may be an issue. I've experience some "tail draggin'" issues leaving parking lots with my lower riding trailer. You will also have to adjust your hitch height for that 4 1/2" of height change .

I bought an adjustable step stool from Camping World to use as a lower step and put the attached steps as high as they would go so I would have 3 steps with shorter rises.

Looks pretty normal in the photo compared to my 189FDS. Mine, with a slideout over the wheel well, sits high compared to trailers without a slideout over the wheel wells.
I’ve considered installing these steps:

I agree that you should consider keeping your current configuration - axles and number of steps. Why? Ground clearance not just for the frame, tongue, axles, etc., but also clearance for that bottom step. We've camped on sites where one end or the other required multiple blocks for the stabilizers to reach the ground, and occasionally the bottom foldout step sat ON the ground. If you install more foldout steps, you may not be able to fully fold them out. So here's what we bought: it's relatively inexpensive, adjustable close to a standard 7-1/2" residential stair, and you only bring it out when you need it.

Well after looking, I discovered that my axles are above the springs which means the trailer is as low as it can go. So basically it the standard configuration and making it low is not in the cards and that is ok.

This holder secured to you trailer jack vertical will keep the weather out, and give you a place to hang it so it doesn’t fall in the dirt. Occasionally I spray a little WD-40 in the connector.
