Drippy Shower System....any mods out there?

We have a 2011 189FBS and having some problems with the shower. First shower, there was water all over the sink and floor. Apparently, the little pull up gadget on the lavy fixtures that directs water to the shower head leaks, especially when I turn off the water at the shower head (to save water). Water also runs down the hose and leaks near the lavy cabinet.

This is not a brilliant system......has anyone out there made simple, or not so simple, changes to shower system to prevent this after shower mop-up operation? Is there some trick to this?
