Default Generator and battery charging question

Hello everyone, we are happy owners of a FF 160X, our first trailer. We recently bought a Yamaha 2000 watt generator for dry camping. If I want to charge the battery on the FF, should I hook it up directly to the generator, or can I just run the generator with the shore power AC cord hooked up to it? Will having the power cord hooked up to the generator charge the battery or just run the power inside the trailer?
Thanks! Kristen

Having the generator hooked up with to shore power will indirectly charge the battery. You can also charge the battery directly if the generator has a 12V DC outlet and you'll need an adapter for charging batteries.

Hi, Read the manual for your genny. While some of the smaller generators do have 12v out, some are labeled "Not for charging batteries". My guess is the 12v is 12v and not 14v, so the battery will not get charged.

As suggested, use the converter in your TT to do the charging.

tht, Ron

I agree just plug it in.for charging.
Pluging into tow car would also charge.
I bring a extra battery and hook it up with primary battery.
theres no room for 2 batterys with the 189fbs im sure your 16 is the same so I leave it on the ground in a box and use the post terminals to connect.
I also have a 15 watt solar panel I interlock on the front window stone protector.

A 2000 watt generator could damage your air conditioner if you use it .

should be good for microwave ,fans ect

Thanks for your replies. I guess my question would then be - is it better to charge my battery directly from the generator with the Yamaha supplied cables, or is it just as good to plug the AC cord from the FF into the generator?
Will one way charge faster than the other? or are both ways equal?

It would probably charge faster by charging the battery directly. But then you have to disconnect it from the trailer. So if you are out camping you'd have no power at all to the trailer while charging. And if you're at home why bother with the generator? You can just plug in the trailer to shore power to charge the battery or if you're in a hurry a conventional battery charger is easier to use and puts no wear & tear on your generator.

thanks to all for your replies. I will probably try both ways - plug the AC power cord to the generator and also try hooking up the battery directly to the generator and see which way is best while dry camping.
