I thought the camper battery would be charged by the tow vehicle.

I just spent 45 minutes in the storage space of my camper, a 2007 18 FBS, trouble shooting this.

The 12 volt power feed coming from the tow vehicle has 12 volts when plugged into the tow vehicle. This wire goes to a big wire nut that goes right, along with other black wires, to the + of the battery on the camper.

The same goes for the white wire from the tow vehicle. It goes to a bunch of white wires one of which goes right to the - of the battery.

So my questions is. Why doesn't the 12V things in the camper work when hooked to the tow vehicle when the camper battery is disconnected?
Hi TD,
I didn't see reference to it in the previous posts, but is your battery switch located in the cargo hold; mine is located inside the fwd street side cargo hold? Mine looks like the switch previously posted, but I added a guard to prevent shifting cargo pushing the switch...

My Camper does not have a factory battery disconnect. The only thing it had was a 30 amp fuse on the tongue. I removed that fuse and put in a 30 amp breaker with a disconnect.

Since I removed the factory disconnect, I'm interested in the breaker - what exactly is it and where did you install it? The only thing I have is a fuse that we pull in and out and I hate doing it because it always sparks.

Thanks for the help!

I got tired of pulling and replacing the fuse as well. I got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and mounted it on the tongue next to the battery.

THANK YOU for this! Is it weatherproof? This looks like something I want!

I was just throwing ideas in the pot... My TV charges the batteries when towing, but it also has a disconnect switch. When the switch is off, the batteries are disconnected; in the event of a breakaway, the brakes would also be disconnected IF the TV to Trailer power cord was pulled.

I originally had only one battery w/o fuse; I upgraded to two batteries and there are several 12 volt fuses at the breaker box inside... I wonder if I should add a breaker at the battery leads??

Good luck with your system...
