Default Planning on replacing brake magnets

I've been dealing with squeaky brakes since I acquired my 2010 trailer used in 2014. I did a web search and discovered that Dexter had problems with their brake magnets in 2010. Apparently these magnets produce a squealing sound when not energized but lightly rubbing the face of the brake drum. Dexter told me it was due to a magnet design change in mid 2009. They redesigned the magnets again mid 2010 so the problem only occurs within this time interval. I'm going to change the magnets on one side first to see if it solves the problem.

Well I have replaced the brake magnets in three of the four wheels. Below is a photo of the old (on left) and new magnets. The old ones are quite worn. Also included is a picture of the new magnet installed. Overall, the brake shoes are in good condition with about a quarter inch of material. I'm hoping that replacing the magnets will eliminate the squealing sound I hear, especially when towing through campgrounds. That being said, I did notice a lot of uneven wear on the inside face of the drum where the old magnets were positioned, so maybe all this work will be for nothing. Time will tell.

I didn't even know the brakes had magnets in them.
