Default Repair leaking fresh water tank

The fresh water tank in my XT276 had a crack in the drain boss the drain valve screws into.

I searched for an exact replacement without success. Therefore, I sought a method to repair the drain boss. The tanks are made of HDPE so no common glue will adhere to them.

I used this product for the repair that is holding up well. It requires a multi step process of heating the area for repair, and addition of some fiberglass material for strength but the results are good- as in no more leak!!

Thanks for the tip! What did you use to incorporate the fiberglass into the repair -- resin, or the Mr. Sticky? And did you use sheets of woven fiberglass, or little pieces?

I applied some of the Mr. Sticky and then put on a strip of fiberglass cloth and then applied another layer of Mr. Sticky over the fiberglass cloth.

The fiberglass cloth does not come with the Mr. Sticky - purchased some at an auto parts store. Of the piece purchased, I cut a strip to the width/length to wrap around the water tank outlet boss...just one layer thick.

And for those who like JB Weld products, I sent them an inquiry if they had a product that would work on HDPE and this was their reply:

"The only product we have that might adhere to that material is our Plastic Bonder #50133.

Because in their reply the 'key word' was "MIGHT" I opted not to try it.

Just F.Y.I.
