Default Roof Cleaning??? Jerry- Azusa CA.

I have a 18-9 FF. It is said I should clean the roof at least twice a year. I weigh 250 lb. Has any body been on top of a FF roof? Does it feel strong. What do you clean it with?

Default cleaning the roof

I have a FF-189 and weigh about 205. to clean the roof I have a long handle (about 5 ft) brush that I bought at the local RV dealer. By using the brush and an 8-ft stepladder, I don't really need to get on the roof. By leaning over I can reach halfway across, then move the ladder. Maybe a little extra running around, but Idon't trust the roof. My owners packet included a brochure from the roofing manufacturer that recommended Murphy's Oil Soap. My local dealer, said not to use anything but the solution he sells. I've used both and the dealers product seems weak and about useless. However, It's your choice.

Default Jerry- Azusa CA. Roof Cleaning

Well the Sun is shining in So CA. So I washed my roof and trailer. The roof with Murphy's Oil Soap, that went well...... I had black marks all over the outer skin. I tried different Cleaners, with no luck. But then used Simple Green... End of BLACK MARKS.... Thought that mite be helpful to someone...

I'm about 215 pounds, and was on the roof of my FF to replace the stock roof vent. No problems.

I would definitely NOT walk on the roof of a trailer. They are not built to take weight. The previous poster has the right idea with a long handled brush. Walking on the roof will probably cause it to leak.

My tech (20 yrs experience) said walking on the roof to inspect and clean it is not a problem. Just make sure you wipe off your shoes so small rocks do not tear the rubber skin. I have walked on it several times and it has not caused leaks. Under the rubber skin is just luan-covered plywood. Would you walk on 1/2 inch plywood framed with aluminum?

I would recommend an RV cover from Walmart, under $200 and easy to put on and remove. If you cover your unit when not using it, you will end up not washing it as much and it will extend the life of your roof and sealant.

I agree with Panther93 about the cover. I bought mine from Camping World so I got taged for a bit more than Walmart, but it sure does help keep the top clean if your FF is stored outside. I have a friend with another brand TT parked in the sun. The front decal (toward the sun) is faded and peeling. Looks terrible. A cover would prevent that.

I bought a cover on Ebay
for $100.00(with shipping) 3 years ago ,no door opening.its covered from nov 1st to april 1 thats 5 months protected from the sun and elements.
Its big enough to cover the tires also.

Only a couple spots that hang up on the gutter edges,I found a little duct tape under the area the first year was enough to stop it from becoming a problem.
