Roof-Top Solar follow up
I promised I would do a follow up on my roof top solar system. If you are interested in reading my previous series of posts while I was building the system, go back to January and early February 2015 in this same Modificatons forum. I installed one 100 watt panel flat on my roof using a 20 amp MPPT controller - all equipment through the Renology website. The system is powering 2 golf cart 6v batteries. I can say confidently, that the single panel is enough power to take care of lighting (yes I have LED), water pump, music/video player and occasional power to the fan on both the stove vent and the furnace. My Dometic refrigerator also has an anti-condensation heating cable in the door. The system obviously does not power A/C or Microwave. Contrary to most of you who live where there is "real" weather, many of us from the Southwest also camp during the non-summer months when your RVs are in storage. My experience is that one 100 watt panel is not enough for boondocking in the winter especially when my panel is permanently flat-mounted on the roof and cannot be tilted. Therefore, soon I will be installing a second 100w panel to double my winter power. By the way, tilting roof panels and portable solar panels definitely have some advantages to the approach I have selected...it's just not what I chose.
