Default stripped lug nut, avoid using 12pt sockets

I decided to replace the lugnuts on the spare wheel carrier which were 13/16" with lugnuts that were 3/4" to match the rest of the wheels. I also bought a deep 3/4" socket for our tool kit.

The first time I tried impacting off one of the axle lugnuts, you know, the ones with the stainless steel cladding, the cladding stripped off. I've taken the lugnuts off 100 times before without issue, always using a 6 point socket. The very first time I used a 12 point socket, it stripped. The rounded cladding over the nut still fit in the 12 point socket, and yet spun freely on the end of the lugnut.

I ended up cutting the cladding off with a Dremel, and was able to pound on a metric socket on the hex head that was under the cladding, and got the lug nut off. Well, long story short, avoid using a 12 point socket on these lugnuts that have a sheet metal cladding.
