Water in Battery Box

So while helping another camper fix his power jack problem (turned out to be a blown fuse) we discovered that his battery box was filled with rain water. We drilled a couple of holes in the bottom of the battery box to drain the water. Upon checking the battery box on my 2015 210UDS I discovered it too was filled almost to the top with water and drilled two holes in the battery box as drains. Is this a common issue and is there something besides drilling drain holes that I should have done?

My unit sits outside during the summer months and has been in some heavy rains.

I do check the battery water level several times during the summer (battery removed when in storage over the winter) and have never had water in the battery box.

The battery box cover on mine extends down the sides of the box itself so any rain water would not enter the box.

Drilling a few drain holes should prevent water accumulation in the box.

Our trailer has a similar battery box whit the top extending over the box. I think the water entered the battery box while driving down to Florida in heavy rain. The water spraying off the rear wheels of my TV most likely the cause.

Yea Ironbutt, I also believe that is how the water entered the battery box.
