Water tank

Hi guys my GF was filling my fun finder 16 ft. And she left the hose in for well over 20+ mins and POP BOOM CRASH my holding take fell out of the metal brackets as it expanded too much and fell out.

Has this ever happens to anyone?
The repair guy said to put it back in and use ratchet straps till I can get into see them.

I’m supposed to be leaving tomorrow to go camping for a week.

Any thoughts or ideas are very welcome !

Hey there Jesse. Don’t be so quick to toss your GF under the bus! I don’t see how it’s possible to be her “fault”. Something else is amiss. First off, the tank should be able to hold its full capacity without falling out of its mounts. I can’t imagine that there isn’t an overflow hose/vent that is designed to allow air to escape as the tank fills and will spew water back out thru the vent once the tank is totally full. If this venting hose is blocked I do suppose that a tank over pressure situation could occur and damage/break a mounting bracket. A blocked vent could also affect the ability of the pump to move water thru the camper’s plumbing. So, even if the tank gets secured enough to allow for the upcoming trip (which has prolly already occurred) get that vent checked out! AND apologize to your GF!!

Hey RipVan, your comment was negative and really not welcomed or needed. As a senior member of this group you should know how to control your tone and have respectful communication when replying. Or at least have some solution to the question being asked....

The mounting bars were bent and the welds broke on all four corners. Had to get a welder to bend back in shape and re-weld them. The tank broke the gas line and damaged some electrical.

Helpful answer or comment is.
RV repair guy said this is a common occurrence with smaller trailers as the vent hole is much smaller in diameter than the filling hole. its a 30 gallon tank and only requires 3-5 mins of filling so over 30 mins with full pressure filling can cause the tank to swell and can break the mounting bars and cause the tank to fall.

The tank still has a bit of a swell to the bottom so for extra safety i put a strap on it.
Helpful hint is to keep an eye on the vent when filling smaller water tanks. Also to avoid any damage make sure to do the prep yourself to avoid any unwanted occurrences as it can cause a lot of damage and be pricey if not done right.

So sorry that you were offended. Perhaps you could consider adjusting your “sensitivity meter” as most here would hardly consider my comments negative. (Except maybe for my bustin’ your chops for blaming your GF

) As for “not being welcomed or helpful” you stated in your OP that any comments or hints would be welcomed. I guess you should be careful what you ask for. To be sure, I did suggest that there may be an issue with the tank vent not to mention the design feature that allowed your problem to occur. I’m glad that you’ve resolved the issue and I agree that it might be best to fill the tank yourself in the future.

I have seen photos taken of various brands of camper that the fresh water tank has fell out of for whatever reason.

Since it apparently does happen at time, I checked mine. The cross braces are secured with self tapping screws. As a precaution, I got 4 more pieces of angle iron similar to what the factory used, and spaced them between the factory braces so not have double the number of supports under the tank.

Easy peasy!
