Default What kind of wiring is in the ceiling of 189FBR?

Hi!

Thinking more about cutting a hole in the ceiling of my 189FBR for an additional skylight and I wondered if anyone had any idea where the wiring runs through the ceiling? I'm thinking of at least an additional 14" x 14" vent/skylight

Any ideas?

Probably no two trailers were made the same, so your best bet might be to get a stud/wire finder. The big box stores have them for about $50 but you might be able to get one online, ebay, amazon, etc. for less.

Actually I already own a couple. I have a tool for finding wires in walls, didn't think of that ... Duh! Wonder if they work on 12 volt. Well worse comes to worse, I'll just have to splice and reroute. Thanks!

Splicing and re-routing shouldn't be too bad. If you take down the trim on the shower sky light you will find the wiring that runs to the fan and light and it was hidden behind the trim piece. If you encounter a wire just splice and hide in the trim the same way.

Your biggest concern will be finding a place that works where there is no stud in the ceiling. Your stud finder should pick those up I would think.

Good luck and post photos when you are done!

Thanks for your thoughts, however as with most of my project ideas, I would not hold my breath to see photos of an actually finished project. LOL. Right now we have taken our camper to California and are babysitting my son's two and a half year old twins for two weeks. Somehow, he and his wife have the mistaken impression that the kids will be toilet trained while they are gone haha. After this I will probably need a month of camping to recover, and then maybe another month of home rest lol so really, what I'm doing right now is just thinking of things I might want to do when I don't have two little children hanging on to my knees.

I discovered a wire bundle while installing a solar panel on my 189 FBS. It runs from the refrigerator vent across the roof and can be seen entering the roof/ceiling sandwich if you remove the vent cap. No idea where other wire runs are located.
