Don't know if the mattress in our '07 FF x210 is the original or not. I'm not so sure that the previous owners used it very much judging by the minimal wear and tear that we noticed before we bought it. We've had this FF for almost 4 years. Wife thinks the mattress alone is too hard so we've piled a couple of foam pads (one egg cartoon style and one memory foam style with dual composition) on top to soften things up. The combo seems to be fine and the potential for heat retention doesn't seem to be a problem. We use a fitted quilted mattress pad to hold all three in reasonable alignment. That too might help with the heat retention issue. Haven't give much thought to getting a new mattress but I'm visualizing a bit of a struggle wrestling it out the door. That right there is almost reason enough to not get a new one.
