07 Gmc Yukon 4x4 Towing

Planning on buying my first tt. My yukon is a 4x4 5.3 tow package/tow haul mode. Rated to tow 7200# I will be towing in the mts as well as flat's. I think I should stay around 6000# max trl weight? looking at the 210wbs and 185fbs? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

When I first bought my 210 wbs I towed with a 99 Tahoe (yukon with a different badge on it) with tow package. It was also rated at 7200 lbs IIRC. It towed the trailer quite well. I estimate that fully loaded including the gear in the truck the towed weight was around 5500 lbs.

Your Yukon should be fine towing either the 185 or the 210.

I totally agree with LJAZ, and I salute you for looking into this thoroughly! So many folks do not and we see them merrily rolling down the road unknowingly looking for an accident! And most RV sales people either have no clue about towing capabilities or are just out to 'sell' and will tell you anything.

Note that one factor you did not comment on is the GCVW , Gross COMBINED Vehicle Weight which is the Max you should be running down the road with; Then your Yukon's Max GVW, which would be your Yukon loaded plus the hitch weight. But from what you indicate, either of those trailers, even loaded with their max cargo load should be good.

For instance, fully loaded, we are at around 12,500 on our GCVW ... My RAM is rated for 14,000. But we are also boarder-line on the Max GVW for the truck because of the added tongue weight, but well under the 8,500 Trailer towing capacity, as far as the trailer's weight! Go figure. But so glad you're not trying to max it out and over load! Good RVing!

We tow with a 210WBS with a 2012 Silverado with the 5.3, 6 speed, and 3.42 gears. We don’t have a lot of experience with it yet.
I think you will be OK on the flat but you state you will be in mountains also. We found we didn’t have much power in the mountains, and had to shift to first gear to climb the steepest grades. We weighed the outfit on a grain elevator scale, and the total weight of the loaded pickup, camper, and passengers was 11,040 pounds, which is well below the 15,000 GCWR of the vehicle.
You might want to check on your gear ratio. Maybe you will have a 3.73 or 4.11 ratio, which would help.
