Default Hitch rating on Travel trailer

I have a 2008 230DS that has a hitch on the back of it. I cant find any details on the hitch telling me what its rated for. Looking on line it appears to be a Class 2 which would be rated for 3500lbs.

In Texas you are allowed to triple tow as long as the over all length is not more that 65 feet. I want to attach a utility trailer so I can pull my bike or a golf cart when needed.

Just wanted to see if anyone has any experiences with this good or bad just so I can learn more before I invest in the utility trailer.

It's not factory, so you will likely have tough time finding a rating. While the hitch may have a 3500 lb. rating, the actual rating will depend on how it's installed. You also need to consider the total weight rating of trailer and the tow vehicle of course. How is the hitch installed? How much does the trailer & load weigh? Also, the tongue weight on the back will reduce the tongue weight at the front.

The towing bumper looks to be bolted on with four 3/8 or 1/2 inch bolts on each side. I only quickly looked at it the other day for the first time so I need to look a little closer.

The trailer weighs about 400lbs and the heaviest load would be 1200lbs (golf cart) with all that I am well under my towing capacity on the truck just wish I knew how to judge the strength of the hitch so I don't risk hurting the trailer. I probably would only haul a golf cart
once a year although the bike I would take more often but it only weighs 600lbs.

With the last company I worked for I pulled my Funfinder x244 RBS with a 10foot trailer with a ATV all over 1700mile trips a few times had a 2008 and 2013 Chevy 2500hd and I've never had any trouble only thing is you have to watch ahead on where you pull into filling stations and such because it's almost impossible to back all 3 at same time
