If the reason for swaying is tongue weight related then you need more tongue weight. It should be about 10% of the trailer weight.

Hi,

I think it might help in receiving helpful responses to give a better description of your tow vehicle. Is it a pickup or SUV and is a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton?

The vehicle is in his signature, a GMC Denali.

What is your tongue weight now? Like Kafn8td said it should be at least 10% to 15% of the loaded traller weight.

I wouldn't mess with the sway bar supports until you know a bit more about how you are set up now.

You can measure your tongue weight using a bathroom scale a 5 or 6 ft 2X4, 2 pipes and a brick. Just google 'measuring trailer tongue weight' and you'll find a boatload of links that show you how to do it.

I'd guess your lite on tongue weight.

Moving items from the garage to the front bed should help some.

Hope you made it home safely!!

Default Did you get home OK?

dberg,

Just curious how your trip home was. Did you find a solution to the sway problem?

much better moved all riding gear to the front bed room lowered the fuel in the on board tank and drained all gray and black tanks completly. also found that just leaving the truck in third instead of using tow mode. tail wind on the way home so that helped. averaged just above 8 mpg

Default your trip home

Hi dberg,

Glad you found some help for the sway problem. I am no expert, but guess it might be challenging to eliminate all possibility of sway on a 36 foot bumper trailer. However, you will want to get rid of most of it in order to enjoy driving the rig. Some have used 2 friction anti-sway units, but I don't know how much it helps. I would suggest getting some weight measurements on your loaded rig as it is possible to exceed the GVWR on a half ton pickup when the trailer tongue weight is added to the weight of passengers and gear in the pickup itself.

What weight distributing hitch are you using? I've pulled my loaded XT276 in 40 mph winds without any sway problems using the Equal-I-Zer W/D hitch setup. It has built in sway control.

I carry my Ultra Classic in the garage but notice you have two bikes listed so you probably have more weight behind the axles and that could be why you are light on tongue weight.

Last year when fully loaded for a week long trip, I had my unit weighed ~ you may want to do the same to see if you are exceeding the tow capacity of your tow vehicle and also check the tongue weight at the same time. There are ShureLine scales on fleabay for that or the above mentioned method of using a bathroom scale.

Best travels.
