Default Tongue weight question x210

I have had my X210 for a little over a year (2010 model) and after a couple of scary trips have just loaded it heavy forward and the whole thing settled down.

I am getting ready for an extended trip with lots of gear and decided to get a bit more scientific about tongue weight so I ordered a scale (not yet delivered) and looked up the recommended tongue weight on my X210 - 305 pounds. I was quite surprised because most recommendations I have read are 10-15% of trailer weight. According to the 2010 FF brochure, my trailer weight is from 3540 dry to 5905 fully loaded which should put my tongue weight from 3540 to almost 900 pounds depending on load.

Can anyone enlighten me on the apparent significant discrepancies? Other similarly sized FF trailers have higher tongue weights listed (and this seems to be true in other model years as well).

So, should I use the published 305 in the FF literature or would I be better off using the 10-15% of loaded weight? Mt tow vehicle and equalizer hitch will handle it either way, I'm just looking for the smoothest & safest ride.

Thanks,

Have you actually weighed your unit empty and then loaded to get the true, actual weight?

Not since I added a second battery and solar system last month. It did weigh 3610 unloaded w/full fresh water and propane and 4800 loaded for my last trip earlier this month - the solar w/batt probably added 100 pounds with half of it on the tongue. I expect load for this upcoming trip will be closer to max as we are boondocking and will carry more stores.

Should get the tong scale Tuesday.

If you lived down the block, I'd borrow your tongue scale and weigh mine when loaded and empty.
