Towing 189 FBR with Toyota Previa
We towed the 189 with a 4 cylinder Toyota Previa with over 130 K miles
on the odometer with no problems. The 189 handled better than the 16 ft
Scamp we had before which had gone over 20,000 miles with the Previa.
Previa is rear drive, by way. After about 14,000 miles towing 189, we
traded up to Nissan X-terra. X-terra was noticable improvement in
mountains of North Carolina and West Virginia. Still Previa was
pretty good except on the steepest ascents where speed would decay
to between 45 and 50 mph. Otherwise 55 on highways or 65 on most interstates was easy to maintain. Note this was a 2004 model 189 FBR
with a dry weight of 2300 lbs and loaded to about 3400 lbs. Mileage
averaged about 12 mpg pulling and a bit over 21 solo.
By the way, the Previa is still going strong at 160K, none the worse
for the wear..
