Default Towing with 2007 GMC full size 1/2 ton

Will be picking up our 2010 X-189FDS soon and was wondering if anyone out there has pulled with a vehicle like ours or simillar. Dealer says I only need sway control. Says rear bumper will only drop 1 inch and on WD is needed. I have researched WD and sway control and like what I see thru CURT MFG.

Thanks
Radar

I'd advise against listening to your dealer.

If the back drops an inch, the front is most likely going up that same amount, which means your weight distribution on the truck has shifted and there isn't as much weight over the front wheels. which in turn means you may not have proper steering if you hit a rogue bump in the road.

I think that made sense.
Basically w/o a wd hitch, any bump that the trailer hits, will push the rear of the truck down and the front of the truck up. A wd hitch is built to prevent this. To distribute the tongue weight of the trailer equally on the truck.

Now, I know you have a half ton truck and are well below the GVWR, but since you have to buy a new hitch anyways to get the sway control, I would buy the rest of the WD part anyways. And you can use it when you upgrade. Cause we all know it will happen.

I towed my TT with a 2005 F-150 SC FX4 4x4 for about a year. It did the job, but was working pretty hard. I needed the weight dist and anti-sway with mine as it was a 25 trailer. It certainly bounced my truck around anytime i got off the main arterial roads.

You dont "need" weight distribution and anti-sway but it will certainly make your ride a lot smoother and a bit safer too as well.
