How do I prevent being subscribed to every thread I post in?

Below this posting box is a section titled "Additional Options" and in it a section titled "Thread Subscription". Under that is a preference "Notification type - do not subscribe" and yet I was subscribed to a thread I posted in earlier today.

I figured out how to delete subscribed threads, but I'd rather not be subscribed to them in the first place.

You should be able to change the setting in your user control panel. Click on UserCP at the top left of the page to open it. Then click on Edit Options under Settings and Options and you can change the setting in the default thread subscription mode to 'do not subscribe'.
