Default Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control

I have a Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control on my truck/trailer tow hitch. What are the pros and cons about using this system. It is new to me, and, if for anti-sway control it makes sense. But for weight distribution, it makes no sense to me since all of the weight is still in the ball region of the hitch. I'm no engineer so....

Think of it this way. The hitch connection is essentially a pivot point, so without weight distribution when you hit the brakes the trailer tends to dive pushing down on the hitch ball which in turn raises the front the vehicle making braking and steering less effective. Weight distribution greatly dampens the amount of flex that can occur at the ball transferring the force to the front wheels so you don't lose steering and braking control. You can find more detailed (and elegant) descriptions on line but that's it in a nutshell.

Thanks LJAZ, I hadn't considered the benefit of braking under harder conditions. I did have a car suddenly brake to turn off the highway when they saw a "yard sale" sign, and I didn't notice any sway. SO, great description.
